Law firm Gateley has announced it is to open a new office in Reading.

It will become the practice’s seventh office in England and its first since it took space in Leeds in January 2012. Gateley’s CEO Michael Ward, said the Reading area was the “right opportunity” to raise the firm’s number of locations.

Gateley has appointed one of the area’s best-known lawyers, Christopher Avery, to lead the office, who joins from local law firm, Pitmans, where he was managing partner for 25 years. According to Ward, Gateley has “the right combination of experience and entrepreneurial spirit to help us deliver our objectives.”

The firm started with two partners, but has grown to a nine-partner practice, employing more than 40 staff.

Avery said:  “I have been impressed with the attitude, ambition and professionalism of the Gateley team and believe the prospects for this new venture are extremely promising.”
