University excels for research

Reading University has been named as one of the best in the country for research.

The Research Excellence Framework has ranked the facility 27th out of 154 institutions in the UK for the quality and quantity of its research, with 98% of Reading’s research rated as “internationally recognised”, 78% classed as “internationally excellent” and 27% as “world leading”.

Reading shone in several units of assessment including:

  • Earth systems and environmental sciences (third in the UK for research power)
  • Agriculture, veterinary and food science (fourth in the UK for research power)
  • Architecture, built environment and planning (sixth in the UK for research power)
  • Business and management (third for “world-leading” research)
  • Classics (third in UK for research outputs)
  • Typography (first in UK for research quality)
