The winning team of a design competition at Reading's University Technical College were given a private tour of Network Rail's elevated railway in October.
Students were challenged by the property consultancy Peter Brett Associates (PBA) to develop a concept for the regeneration of the area surrounding Reading station, which recently underwent a £900 million redevelopment.
The elevated railway will open in 2015, with the aim to cut congestion by creating the capacity for an additional four passenger trains per hour.
Martin Dix, partner at PBA, said: “We are delighted to be able to reward the winning team for their efforts on PBA’s project with such an interesting visit to Network Rail’s Reading elevated railway. The students will see first-hand the complexities of a major engineering project on their doorstep.”
