Two open spaces in Reading have been awarded Green Flag status.

Forbury Gardens was given the award for the ninth year in a row and Cavendish Court for the fifth.

Green Flag awards recognise high standards in horticulture, cleanliness and sustainable practices,  as well as providing welcoming, safe environments and encouraging community involvement.

Councillor Paul Gittings, lead member for culture, sport and consumer services, said: "These awards are a just reward for the huge amount of work - both by the council and by voluntary groups – in keeping our parks and open spaces in such magnificent condition.

"My congratulations and thanks to all those involved.”
