Reading notched up a significant rise in the number of new business formed in the town during 2013, according to a new report.
Business analytics firm Duport said 3,206 new businesses came into existence last year, a 6 per cent rise on the figure for 2012.
It said that stripping out company closures, the number of firms Reading hosts increased by 673 in 2013.
Reading’s net company growth was 494 in 2012.
Duport managing director Peter Valaitis said it was clear that the town had a very vibrant entrepreneurial spirit.
“Like much of the UK, Reading clearly suffered during the financial crash of 2009, but our latest figures show that entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in the area,” he said.
“With easy connections to London and other major cities, as well as a large and skilled workforce, Reading is a fantastic place to set up a new company.”
