Builder Bellway Homes and project manager Danescroft have won planning permission for a 192-home development in Reading.

Members of Reading Borough Council’s planning applications committee gave their support to the proposals for the 2.48ha cleared site off Kenavon Drive, south of the London to Reading mainline.

The scheme, on land that forms part of Reading’s east side major opportunity area, is made up of 61 houses and 131 flats in blocks of up to seven storeys in height.

Recommending the application for approval, council planning officers said residential development was acceptable for the site, and accorded with adopted planning policy.

“The development would contribute appropriately to the character and appearance of the area,” they said.

“The developer has now progressed the integration of the site both to the west and the south as fully as possible.”

The committee’s approval was conditional on the agreement of a Section 106 planning gain agreement and the finalisation of a deal on the scheme’s affordable-housing contributions.
