The number of new companies starting in Reading is continuing its rising trend, according to new research.

Business analytics specialist Duport said that net company growth stood at 366 for the first six months of 2013, compared with 282 during the same period of 2012.

It said that the figure represented a 4 per cent rise in company formation coupled with a 2 per cent fall in company closures.

Duport managing director Peter Valaitis said Reading‘s growth levels had registered a fantastic resurgence after dipping into negative territory between 2009 and 2011.

“The proposed town centre regeneration could encourage even more businesses into the area in years to come, strengthening the local economy against future economic shocks,” he said.
