Bus lane set for extension

Reading Borough Council is consulting on plans to extend a key bus lane in an attempt to speed up journey times through the east of the town.

It is proposing to introduce a continuous east-bound link along King’s Road by creating a bus lane from stops outside the Prudential.

Councillor Tony Page, the council’s regeneration, transport and planning lead, said the new lane was the “missing link” between two important lanes.

“It will deliver improved running times and reliability for some of the busiest bus routes in Reading,” he said.

“I am hopeful we can get this in place in the early New Year.”

Reading Borough Council said work to create the bus lane would be enabled by some minor alterations to the large triangular island nears Orts Road.

It said the work would have minimal impact on the existing road network.

The consultation continues until 31 October.
